Best Practices No. 33: technologies with impact

July 2, 2024

In issue No. 33 of Best Practices magazine, we announce that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) has commissioned a lab supported by Mecalux to research the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in logistics. This will be the starting point for a research collaboration between MIT CTL and Mecalux that will take place over the next few years.

The magazine contains success stories of companies from various countries and industries that have relied on Mecalux Group storage and management solutions to enhance their logistics processes. For example, German industrial service provider WISAG tracks 10,000 SKUs belonging to different customers with the Mecalux Group’s Easy WMS warehouse management system. In Spain, deep-frozen vegetable business Saar Originia Foods has tripled production with an integrated logistics solution. Organizations such as ADA in Portugal and Laiterie Saint-Père in France have also increased their production rate by automating their intralogistics operations.

In this issue, a report unlocks the keys to managing the logistics operations behind Spain’s 32-year world record for organ transplants. In addition, research conducted by Thomas J. Goldsby, Donald F. Kuratko, and Michael G. Goldsby explores an entrepreneurial mindset in supply chain managers. Likewise, an analysis by Negin Jamili, Pieter L. Van den Berg, and René de Koster shows the impact of sharing pickers and docks.

The magazine also features contributions from Rob Handfield and Tom Linton, who reveal how to achieve supply chain immunity. Moreover, it delves into the latest trends such as computer vision, generative AI, and cloud computing technology.
