Job Description:

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting the EHS Manager by ensuring that all US locations meet all requirements pertaining to regulations, policies, and procedures related to safety, health, and environmental, with special focus on OSHA and EPA.

Responsibilities:

  • Help lead the development and implementation of safety regulations within the Melrose Park facility and on a corporate level for all US locations.
  • Manage the correspondence and/or meetings/audits/hearings with all state, local, and federal agencies, including OSHA and EPA, with regards to matters related to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate the new hire safety orientation and training programs and other safety training from time to time and as needed.
  • Lead and/or participate in Safety Committee meetings
  • Provide leadership to management to incorporate continuous improvement principles and techniques.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce associates' exposure to work hazards.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Manage accident investigations and safety audits, teaming with Human Resources and Plant Management to administer corrective action.
  • Report and review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing to management.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.
  • Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.
  • Collect and file EHS Documents

Minimum requirements:

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​Bilingual Spanish/English required.
  • 5+ years experience in health, safety, and/or environmental position within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong proven leadership skills.
  • Solid understanding of safe work practices, OSHA, and EPA (OSHA 10-hour certificate a plus) and knowledge and understanding of preventing disease transmission
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling manufacturing projects.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Capable of standing/walking 6+ hours per day as 75% of each day will be out on the plant floor.
