Impuls Domžale is a food distributor that supplies various brands to Slovenian public institutions. It recently incorporated Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system to streamline order fulfillment.

Impuls Domžale: Food for all walks of life

Impuls Domžale supplies food to Slovenian public institutions, such as early childhood centers, schools, hospitals, and retirement homes. The company works with some of the most renowned organizations on the market in addition to developing its own brands. It also features a business line specializing in products for people with allergies and intolerances.

CHALLENGES

  • Manage large volumes of goods without increasing human errors.
  • Digitalize all warehouse processes: goods receipt, order picking, and inventory control.

SOLUTION

  • Easy WMS warehouse management system.

BENEFITS

  • Management of 2,000 SKUs to fulfill multichannel orders faster.
  • Greater visibility to understand the scale of the business and plan accurately.

For more than 30 years, Impuls Domžale has been synonymous with quality and timeliness. The distributor supplies food products to public institutions throughout Slovenia, including early childhood centers, schools, hospitals, and retirement homes. Over time, Impuls Domžale has earned the trust of some of the most reputable companies in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market while developing a portfolio of its own brands. It has even ventured into e-commerce with its online store Zoja, which specializes in healthy foods for people with dietary allergies.

To handle a growing volume of goods, Impuls Domžale turned to Špica, an expert in digital supply chain solutions. Špica recommended implementing Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system in the Domžale facility to coordinate increasing numbers of products and multichannel orders without raising the risk of human error.

Located near Ljubljana, the warehouse holds 2,000 SKUs distributed across two floors. The upper level houses dietetic products.

Before deploying Easy WMS, Impuls Domžale managed goods receipt, inbound inspection, and inventory control manually. With Mecalux’s software, the organization has gained greater process visibility, allowing it to scale its business appropriately and plan more accurately. Now, all warehouse operations are tracked through the system — from FEFO-based order picking to shipping and returns.

An end-to-end solution

Mecalux’s software has streamlined Impuls Domžale’s multichannel order fulfillment, drastically reducing errors. Since its implementation, orders placed before 10:00 a.m. are delivered the following morning.

As goods are received, Easy WMS uses barcode scanning to check expiration dates. Warehouse associates then collect all dietetic products simultaneously and move them to the ground floor of the facility. There, they continue picking in the general, chilled, frozen, and sensitive food areas. Thanks to this organization, by the next morning, Impuls Domžale can load all daily orders onto vans bound for different routes. Replenishments are triggered automatically in parallel with picking. This ensures constant product availability, with every item identified by barcode.

Mecalux’s software has helped Impuls Domžale adapt to increased demand and workforce fluctuations. “Easy WMS enables us to handle much higher workloads than before, and we’ve seen a significant reduction in errors,” says David Božič, Sales and Logistics Manager at Impuls Domžale. Božič emphasizes the company’s goal of sustained growth, noting: “Digitalization is essential to eliminate inefficiencies in FMCG logistics.”
