The brewing group will install an automated warehouse with the 3D Automated Pallet Shuttle and Easy WMS to manage 650 beer SKUs and optimize distribution in France
GBS (Groupement des Bières Spéciales), a logistics platform that brings together independent breweries across France, is building a new automated warehouse in Billy-Berclau. The facility will feature Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system and 3D Automated Pallet Shuttle. This advanced technology solution uses multidirectional shuttles to store and retrieve goods automatically. The new facility will increase the group’s capacity and expand service to distributors, large retail chains, and the hospitality channel.
GBS handles nearly 8 million gallons of beer annually and supplies 650 SKUs to more than 390 clients. Growth has driven the investment in this next-generation logistics facility, designed to manage higher volumes, ensure full traceability, and meet industry regulatory requirements. Once operational, the warehouse will centralize receiving, storage, order picking, and shipping for all the organization’s brands.
The French group of independent breweries will allocate 64,600 ft² to storage. The 3D Automated Pallet Shuttle system — equipped with 11 multidirectional shuttles and three elevators — will manage 7,826 pallets. Easy WMS will oversee all operations, including product traceability and the management of an area outfitted with selective pallet racking.
“This new technology marks a key milestone in our logistics evolution. It will give us greater capacity, control, and flexibility to meet market demands,” said GBS management.
With this investment, the group will consolidate its role as a specialized logistics provider for its members and strengthen its position within France’s specialty beer distribution market.
