Ervin Germany digitalizes management of two industrial facilities with Easy WMS

One of the world’s biggest metallic abrasives manufacturer streamlines logistics processes to ensure reliable worldwide deliveries

Ervin Germany

Ervin Germany manufactures metallic abrasives for industrial treatments and manages its logistics operations with Mecalux’s Easy WMS. Digitalization has enabled 99.9% inventory accuracy and faster, more reliable international shipments.

Ervin Germany: Specialists in metallic abrasives

The European subsidiary of the US-based Ervin Industries, a family business founded in the 1920s, specializes in metallic abrasives such as metal shot, grit, and stainless steel for industrial surface treatments. Its products are used for shot blasting, cleaning, cutting, shot peening, and surface preparation across the automotive, foundry, metal construction, machinery, and aerospace industries. With an international presence, the company manufactures and distributes directly to customers worldwide.

CHALLENGES

  • Eliminate manual processes to gain operational visibility and tighter stock control.
  • Coordinate production, labeling, and shipping across two facilities in real time.

SOLUTION

  • Easy WMS Warehouse Management System.

BENEFITS

  • 99.9% inventory accuracy.
  • Integration of production and logistics into a continuous flow, accelerating international shipments.

Ervin Germany, a specialist in metallic abrasives for industrial surface treatments, has digitalized logistics operations in its Glaubitz and Sprockhövel facilities with Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system. The company’s goal was to strengthen inventory control in an industrial environment characterized by constant shipments to a global customer base.

“Several years ago, we defined our digitalization roadmap to gain operational visibility, improve efficiency, and move forward in sustainability. A warehouse management system is part of this strategy,” says Florian Götz, Director of Innovation at Ervin Germany. “We chose Mecalux because it offered a scalable, international solution that met our requirements.” The business opted for a system capable of supporting its growth and adapting to its global production model.

Digitalization linked to production and dispatch

Easy WMS synchronizes information between production and the warehouses in real time. Every day, processed material is packaged, automatically labeled, and logged in the system before being put away. This digital shift has transformed daily operations, providing full traceability for every product movement.

“With Easy WMS, we know exactly how much stock we have on hand and can respond faster to customer inquiries. Previously, the process was manual,” says Götz.

The Sprockhövel warehouse uses block stacking (floor storage) and operates as a buffer, while the Glaubitz facility handles finished goods. At both sites, the Mecalux software controls the flow of products (primarily steel shot of various sizes for multiple industrial processes) from in-house manufacturing through dispatch to customers. “We ship across the EU and to other international markets,” says Götz. “We mainly work with single-SKU containers, full truckloads, and full containers.”

Easy WMS also interfaces with the company’s own labeling system. This connection streamlines communication between production and logistics, improving shipping management. “Our labels include all the information relevant to the system and the associates, who now receive clear instructions to select the correct pallet and load the trucks,” says Götz.

99.9% accuracy: The real impact of digitalization

The most significant outcome of the digital transformation has been total stock control. “Our inventory accuracy rate now stands at 99.9%,” says Götz. This level of precision enables the business to manage full truckloads faster and more securely, reduce human error, and enhance operational decision-making.

The Mecalux software guides associates via tablets with Bluetooth scanners — a flexible solution that reinforces the company’s technological independence. “It was essential for us not to be tied to a specific manufacturer; we wanted to be able to choose any Android device based on our needs,” says Götz. This autonomy facilitates integration with other internal tools and boosts operational agility.

Following several optimization phases, the logistics software has become indispensable to daily operations. “Today, our warehouse associates couldn’t imagine working without Easy WMS; it fully meets our expectations. In fact, we’re considering rolling out the system to other international facilities as part of our global digitalization strategy,” says Götz.

Global logistics operations

The new digital project at the Glaubitz and Sprockhövel warehouses has enabled Ervin Germany to strengthen operational control, ensure full traceability of all shipments, and reliably manage single-SKU containers. Thanks to Easy WMS, the company guarantees rapid delivery to customers worldwide.
